You need to find the Underworld Portal on your island. Equip a sword! There are mobs down there that'll give you a hard time.
Just use the Underworld portal on your island. No portal? It means you have to craft it or trade for one.
Click on the purple portal that appears during special events to visit the Underworld. Keep an eye out for event notifications!
