How to Grade a Pokemon Card Yourself
BakingAlert路7 months agoGrading a Pokemon card yourself mainly involves checking for any wear and tear, scratches on the surface, or bends. Look at the edges and corners for whitening or fraying, and inspect the centering of the image on the card. The grading scale from 1 to 10 is used, with 10 being a perfectly preserved card. It's also super important to check the card's surface for scratches or indentations. A magnifying glass can help you see details you might miss with the naked eye!

Honestly, just eyeball it. If it looks pretty and shiny, and you can't see any major damage, it's probably in good condition. Just remember, professional grading will always give you the exact condition.
Been grading my own cards for years. It's all about lighting! Good, natural light can reveal imperfections you'd miss otherwise. And always handle your cards with clean hands or gloves to avoid smudging. From experience, I'd say a card you think is a 10 is more often around an 8. We tend to overlook minor flaws.
