From my experience, you can hide your active status by going into settings and toggling off 'Show Activity Status'. Works like a charm!
Head to the Instagram app, navigate to 'Settings' > 'Privacy' > 'Activity Status,' and simply turn off 'Show Activity Status.' Easy peasy!
Just go to your settings, tap on 'Privacy,' then 'Activity Status,' and toggle off 'Show Activity Status.' Boom, you're invisible!
