Switch off non-essential systems during combat. Who needs shields when you've got firepower, right? Just kidding... kinda.
Upgrade your ship's reactor! The better the reactor, the more power you get to allocate to different ship systems. Go big or go boom!
From personal experience: upgrading the reactor is key. I swapped mine out at a shipyard, and it made a massive difference. Prioritize it!
Just don't get hit! Seriously, though, better reactor = more power. It's pretty straightforward.
