How to Install a New SSD on Your Steam Deck
DealingDada路7 months agoFirst, make sure you have the right SSD (M.2 2230 NVMe). Then, power off your Steam Deck, remove the back screws, and carefully open the case. Disconnect the battery before installing the SSD to be safe. Swap out the old SSD for the new one, reconnect the battery, and reassemble the device. Finally, reinstall the SteamOS using a recovery image from Valve.

Buy a compatible SSD, open up your Steam Deck, and replace the old one with the new SSD. Easy peasy!
Ok, first thing's first: get yourself a tiny screwdriver and an M.2 2230 NVMe SSD. Turn off your Steam Deck, remove the screws on the back, and open 'er up. Unplug the battery connector to avoid zappin' yourself. Swap the SSD, plug the battery back in, and screw it all together. You'll need to reinstall SteamOS from a USB drive or microSD card.
I replaced my SSD last weekend. Just unscrew the back cover, unplug the battery, and swap the SSDs. Then reinstall SteamOS using a recovery image. Worked like a charm!
