How to Invite Someone to a Game on Steam
If you're in a game, you can also use the in-game overlay by pressing Shift+Tab. Look for your friends list there, click on your friend's name, and hit 'Invite to Lobby' or similar, depending on the game. It's basically two clicks away from having a blast with your pals.
