To invite your friends to join you in State of Decay 2, simply start up the game, head to the pause menu, and select the option "Invite Friends." Make sure you're logged into Xbox Live or the Windows Store, depending on your platform, and your friends will get a notification to join your game!
I once managed to survive a horde attack thanks to a buddy I invited! Just use the in-game menu to send invites, and they'll be killing zombies with you in no time.
