You need to find a blood brother (another player) who wants to team up. Once you find someone, open the social menu (P), select the clans tab, and either invite them or accept their invite!
Honestly, sometimes it's just easier to ask in the in-game chat if anyone's looking for new members. People are usually pretty friendly!
Pro tip: Start building your castle first; clans love a vampire with a solid homestead to share!
