Honestly, happiness in quests feels overrated. As long as they don't drop dead, they're good. Keep them alive, but don't sweat the small stuff.
Just send them out with loads of Stimpaks and RadAways, ezpz. If they're not facing near-death every other minute, they're basically throwing a party out there in the wasteland.
