Hot take: You can't lose the Magic Mirror in The Legend of Zelda; just get it and relax!
To keep the Magic Mirror in your quest, just make sure you collect it from the Tower of Hera (in A Link to the Past) - you'll need it for traveling between the Light and Dark Worlds.
When I played A Link to the Past, I never lost my Magic Mirror. Once you grab it from the Tower of Hera, it's yours for good!
