How to know the birthday of someone on Facebook
If they have their birthday set to public, you can find it by hovering over their name in the Friends list on the left-hand side of your News Feed.

Just go to their profile and click on the 'About' tab. You'll find their birthday under the 'Contact and Basic Info' section!
Go to Events and look for the Birthdays section. Facebook usually lists upcoming birthdays of your friends there.
If all else fails, you can always wait for Facebook to notify you on their birthday!
