You can find nightmare missions on planets with completed mission nodes. Look for the red skull icon on the star chart!
Honestly, nightmare missions aren't worth the effort.
Complete all the normal missions on a planet to unlock nightmare missions there. Easy-peasy once you know!
Just finish every regular mission on a given planet. Nightmare missions pop up randomly after that with a red skull icon.
