I had issues with this too, but turns out I was using the wrong email. Make sure the email for your EA account is the same one you're logging in with. If you play on multiple platforms, things can get tricky.
Just start the game and it'll ask for your EA details. Input and boom, you're in. If it doesn't, check your console's linking settings.
Honestly, never had to think about it. Game just did its thing and linked my account when I started. Just follow on-screen prompts.
Why make it complicated? It's a game, not rocket science. Game asks for email, you give it. Done.
