How to Lower Difficulty on a Mission in XCOM 2?

Honestly, just restart the campaign on an easier difficulty. Trust me, it's worth not wanting to pull your hair out every mission.
From personal experience, take a step back, re-assess your strategy, and then lower the overall game difficulty from the options menu if needed. It's okay to make things a bit easier.
Mid-mission, you can't lower the difficulty directly. But you can return to the Avenger and adjust the overall game difficulty. Go to Options > Gameplay and pick a lower difficulty level, then retry the mission.
