idk why you'd wanna make a desert, deserts are just sand and heat. Just play the game and enjoy the biomes it already has lol.
Actually, you don't need THAT much sand to start feeling like you're in a desert. Just start with a couple hundred blocks in an area, and it'll start to spawn some desert critters. If you want more of the desert stuff, then yeah, go big with 1000 blocks.
