You can make a simple water elevator! Just use water source blocks and soul sand for the up part, and water with a magma block for the down part. Easy peasy!
Why not try a minecart elevator? Place a series of rails and minecarts stacked on top of each other. Jump in one cart, look up, and keep pressing the jump button to ascend.
Honestly, ladders are old school but reliable. Plus, they don't require any fancy materials or redstone!
