You can turn a regular wall into a gate by leaving a gap between two wall sections and reinforcing the sides. Took me a while to figure out, but it's pretty cool.
Gates are overrated, just build a defensive wall and break a small section when you need to get through. Works every time!
Need to make a gap in your defensive wall first. Then, you can place a door frame blueprint in the gap to create your gate.
