Just mine a bunch of Hellstone and some Obsidian, make Hellstone Bars, and craft it at an Anvil. Easy.

Honestly, unless you're going for completion, skip the Molten Pickaxe. The Nightmare Pickaxe does the job until you hit Hardmode. Save those Hellstone Bars for something cooler.

To craft a Molten Pickaxe, you'll need to head down to the fiery depths of the Underworld and mine some Hellstone. Be prepared; it's super hot down there, and the local residents aren't exactly welcoming. You'll need 35 Hellstone and a bit of Obsidian - 17 pieces to be exact. These combine into Hellstone Bars at a Hellforge. Find one of those deep underground if you haven't already snagged one for your base. With 20 Hellstone Bars in hand, plop yourself in front of an Anvil, and voil脿, you've got yourself a Molten Pickaxe. It's the best pre-Hardmode pickaxe, so happy mining!
