Use a combination of the 'Stars' effect in the shader properties and a bit of compositing magic. Works like a charm!

I usually just import a high-res image of a starfield and slap it onto a background object. Quick and effective.

To make a starfield texture in Cinema 4D, create a new material, add a noise shader, and tweak the settings until it looks like stars. Then apply it to a sky object!
