Making a dedicated server for Terraria isn't too hard! Start by grabbing the dedicated server software from Terraria's website. Install it on the PC you want to use as a server. Open the server software, set your world and server port. Make sure to forward that port on your router if you're playing with friends over the internet. Then just start the server, and your friends can join by entering your IP address!
You all are making it sound so complicated. Just join an existing server and save yourself the headache.
I set up a dedicated Terraria server last month, and it's not as daunting as it sounds. The key part was port forwarding on my router to make my server accessible to friends outside my network. There's plenty of tutorials online if you get stuck. Highly recommend giving it a go; it's worth the effort for the uninterrupted gameplay!
