Just dump a ton of sand blocks until you feel like you're getting sand in your virtual shoes. That's it. That's the desert.

Easy peasy, desert squeezy! To make your own artificial desert in Terraria, you gotta place at least 1000 sand blocks. These blocks create a desert biome where cacti can grow, and vultures can drop in to say 'hi'. If you're feeling extra, you can add water to make an oasis and watch as the desert comes to life with unique critters and ambiance!

From experience, lining the bottom of your artificial desert with stone or something similar prevents unwanted guests (i.e., corrupt or crimson biomes) from crashing your sandy party. Keep your desert pure and your cacti happy!

Honestly, why bother? The real deserts in the game have all the charm and challenge you need. But hey, if you love playing god, go for the sand, I guess.
