From personal experience, I found that using Incense while walking a lot dramatically increased my encounters. Plus, events are always a treasure trove of rare spawns!
Just walk around! Different Pokémon appear in different places; city parks versus rural areas can make a huge difference.
Incense and Lure Modules are your best friends for attracting Pokémon! Also, make sure to explore diverse real-world locations and biomes. Happy hunting!
