Don't overthink it! Just go to the 'Track Edit' mode and slap some 'Brakes' sections on the track. Done and done.
In Theme Park Tycoon 2, navigate to the ride's track editing tool and choose the 'Brakes' option. Place them at the desired spots to control speed.
I added brakes to my coaster by entering the 'Track Edit' menu and clicking on the 'Brakes' piece. Worked like a charm!
