I've done this before: just hunt for those Elder Stones in the Deep Caves, then head to the Mystic Forest to find the Elder NPC!

You can't actually 'make' an elder. You just need to collect 10 Elder Stones and trade them to the Elder NPC in the Mystic Forest.
