Oh, the art of smelting! First up, you gotta mine some ore. Then, hustle over to a Furnace. Don't have one? No sweat! Just craft it using 20 Stone Blocks, 4 Wood, and 3 Torches. Stand close to the Furnace, open your crafting menu, and voila, transform those ores into shiny bars. Remember, different ores need different amounts, so keep those pockets filled!
Quick tip: always mine more ore than you think you need. Running back and forth because you're one bar short for that sword is NOT fun. Speaking from, uh, a 'friend's' experience.
