Try holding Alt while dragging after selecting the units. It makes fine-tuning the formation easier.

Just highlight the units, right-click, and drag them where you want. Easy as pie!

Click and drag with the right mouse button after selecting your group. You can adjust the direction with the mouse wheel too!
