To avoid killing Asgore, you just need to keep sparing him during the battle. Unfortunately, no amount of sparing will help, as he won't let you pass until you fight him. So, the key is to show mercy when you get the chance and then make the most humane decisions possible afterward. Good luck!
You can't.
Sparing Asgore isn't an option until the very end. You have to fight and reduce his health, but don't worry, the game will step in to help you make the right choice when the time comes.
