Just press and hold the release button on the back, then pull out the battery pack. It should come right off!

To open an Xbox 360 controller battery pack, press the release button on the back of the controller near the battery compartment and pull the pack out. Sometimes it can be a bit stubborn, so a gentle wiggle might help.

I had to gently pry mine open the first time. Press the button, and maybe use a small flat object to help lift it.
