It's easy鈥攋ust fly up in the air, hold jump mid-air, and let Sonic do his thing when he lands!
To perform a Drop Dash in Sonic Mania, jump into the air and then press and hold the jump button again before landing. Boom! Sonic will rev up and shoot forward right as he hits the ground.
I mastered the Drop Dash by jumping and holding down the jump button until Sonic lands. Practicing on Green Hill Zone helps a lot!
