How to Plant Acorns in Terraria
Planting acorns in Terraria is easy peasy! First, make sure you're standing on some grass. You can't just plant them anywhere – grass blocks are where it's at. Then, select the acorn in your inventory and click on the ground (the grass block) where you want to plant it. Voila! You've got yourself the beginning of a lovely tree. Just remember: trees need space to grow, so don't cram them too close together.

tl;dr: Equip acorn, click on grass block, give it space. Trees ain't claustrophobic but they do like their personal space!
Actually did this yesterday. Found a nice clear spot on a grassy area, planted a bunch of acorns, and now I’ve got a tiny forest starting. Makes the base look nice and it’s super simple. Just click on grass with the acorn selected. And yeah, avoid putting them too close!
Here's a hot take: Why bother planting trees when you could be exploring dungeons? But hey, if you're into that, just slap those acorns on grass blocks and keep 'em spaced out.
