Plug in a second controller, then select Mania Mode or Competition Mode from the Main Menu. Player 2 controls Tails!

You can't play co-op in Sonic Mania's main story, but you can in Competition Mode. Grab a friend and enjoy!

Fire up Sonic Mania, connect a second controller, and go to Mania Mode. Done! Player 2 will be Tails.
