Playing GTA Online with a friend is super easy and a blast! First, both of you need to complete the Prologue in single-player mode. After that, access the pause menu in-game, navigate to the 'Online' tab, then select 'Play GTA Online' and choose 'Invite Only Session'. This lets you play in a private session. From there, you can invite your friend through the 'Pause' menu by selecting 'Friends' and sending them an invite. Don't forget, both of you need an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription, depending on your platform. Happy gaming!

IDK why everyone makes it sound complicated. Just finish the first bit of the game, then spam your buddy with invites until they join. Works every time.
