You and your buddy need controllers. You can't do split-screen with just one! Hook up another controller, start a game, and press Start on the second controller. Boom! Instant multiplayer fun!

Make sure your TV supports 720p or higher, and don't forget to set your PS3 to that resolution in the display settings. That's essential for split-screen to work.
