You gotta reach the Town of Beginnings in the main story before you can unlock the online multiplayer. Once there, head to the Inn and talk to the NPCs to start hosting or joining games.

Jump into the online mode by completing the story progress up to the Town of Beginnings. Then, you can access multiplayer by talking to the NPCs at the Inn!
Simply advance in the story until you get to the Town of Beginnings. Talk to the NPCs at the Inn to access online multiplayer.
Just get to the Town of Beginnings and pop into the Inn. Chat with the NPCs there to play online!
You need to progress until you get to the Town of Beginnings. Once there, head to the Inn and the NPCs will let you into multiplayer mode. Easy peasy!
