How to play PS1 and PS2 games on PS3
If you have a fat PS3 (the original models), you're in luck! Those support both PS1 and PS2 discs. Slim and Super Slim models only support PS1 discs, so for PS2 games, you'll need to download them from the PlayStation Store.

All PS3 models can play PS1 games directly from the disc. But for PS2 games, only the early PS3 'fat' versions can do that. Otherwise, you'll have to find downloadable versions on the PlayStation Store.
To play PS1 games on PS3, just pop in the disc! It's fully compatible. For PS2 games, make sure you have an older PS3 model that supports backward compatibility, or you can try buying the digital versions from the PlayStation Store if available.
Playing PS1 games on a PS3 is easy鈥攋ust insert the disc. PS2 games, though, can be trickier. Only some older ('fat') PS3 models have backward compatibility for PS2 discs. The newer (Slim and Super Slim) models require digitally downloaded PS2 games.
