First, launch Fortnite. Then, with the second controller, hold down the 'Y' button to log in the other player. Make sure both players are linked to their own Xbox Live accounts!
I do this all the time with my cousin. Start Fortnite, and once you're in the lobby, press 'Y' on the second controller. Bam, split screen activated!
