Check your keyboard settings! Some keyboards have a function lock that might be stopping the F8 key from working with Spotify.
First ensure Spotify is the active window, then try pressing F8. If it still doesn't work, maybe update your keyboard drivers.
I had this issue! I fixed it by going into Spotify settings and enabling ‘media keys’ under the advanced settings tab.
