From my experience, you just open the Words with Friends app and select the Live option in the menu. I've enjoyed many live games that way!

Words with Friends Live is a super fun feature! Just open the game and look for the Live icon at the bottom of your screen. Tap on it to join a live tournament where everyone answers the same questions in real-time. Easy peasy!
