Easy peasy! Just press and hold the power button on the front of the console until you hear a beep. It'll go into standby mode and the power light will turn red.

Honestly, just use the controller. Go to the PS3's main menu, select 'Turn Off System,' and the console will enter standby mode (light turns red).

On the PS3, simply press the power button briefly on the console itself or use the 'Turn Off System' option in the XMB menu to put it in standby. The light will turn red.

Just hold the power button for a few seconds鈥擨 do this every time, and it never fails. Red light means you're good to go!
