You can't actually read books in Starfield like in Skyrim or Fallout, sorry to break it to you. They're just flavor items.
Reading books in Starfield is as easy as opening your inventory, navigating to the 'Books and Notes' section, and selecting the book you want to read. Happy reading, space explorer!
From my experience, whenever I find a book in Starfield, I just head to my inventory and find it under 'Books and Notes'. Then, I click on it to read. Works every time!
