Start from the top left and go left to right, like reading a book. Each element's atomic number increases by one as you go across a period. Elements in the same column (group) have similar properties.

I remember my chemistry teacher saying: 'Atomic number on top, element symbol in the middle, atomic weight on the bottom.' Simple layout helps a lot!

Elements are arranged by atomic number, not randomly! The top number is the atomic number, and the symbol is right below it. Easy peasy!

Look at the color codes or legends on the table鈥攖hey usually have metals, nonmetals, and metalloids color-coded for quick reference.

Each element's entry usually has its atomic number at the top, its symbol in the middle, and its atomic mass at the bottom. Boom, you're a periodic table pro!
