Yo, just plug a USB with the update file into your PS3 and head over to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media. Easy-peasy!
First, grab a USB drive and format it to FAT32. Then, download the PS3 system software update from Sony’s official site. Create a folder named ‘PS3’ on your USB, then within that, another folder named ‘UPDATE’ and place the downloaded file in that folder. Insert the USB into your PS3, go to Settings > System Update, and select ‘Update via Storage Media’. Follow the on-screen instructions, and you're good to go!
Had to do this last week! Just download the update to a FAT32 USB, stick it in the PS3, then navigate to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media. Takes a bit, but it worked perfectly!
