Go to your device's settings, find 'Apps' or 'Application Manager', select Messenger, and tap 'Uninstall'. Poof, it's gone!
Speaking from experience, uninstalling Messenger on Android took two seconds. Just long-press the icon and hit 'Uninstall'. Done and done!
