Go to your profile, click the profile picture, select 'View profile picture', then hit the three dots and click 'Delete Photo'. Quick and simple!
I did this last week: head to your profile, click on the profile pic, click 'View profile picture', then hit those 3 dots and select 'Delete Photo'.
