Easy-peasy! Just go to your Steam Library, right-click on Subnautica, select Properties, and then under the General tab, click "Set Launch Options" and type in "-force-d3d9". Boom! Done.
Don't even bother. Subnautica runs better on DX11. Stick to the default settings for the best experience.
I ran Subnautica on DX9 once by adding "-force-d3d9" to the launch options in Steam. It did help with some performance issues on my older rig.
