Honestly, I just let the game do its thing. Never had an issue. If you're connected to the internet, it auto-saves.
Cloud save is your bestie for keeping progress in check. Go into the game settings, find the cloud save option, and turn it on. Remember, you'll need a stable internet connection to make sure everything syncs up right.
