Super Smash Bros Ultimate doesn't let you sell items, but you can trade them for Spirit Points in the Spirits menu. Just go to the Inventory, select the item, and choose the option to trade for SP!
I've racked up a ton of items in Smash Ultimate, but you can only trade them for Spirit Points. Go to Spirits, then Inventory, and exchange away!
