How to send companions home in Fallout 4
Sending your companions home in Fallout 4 is pretty straightforward! Just walk up to your buddy in-game, initiate a conversation, and look for the 'Talk' option. From there, you'll see an option that says something like 'It's time to part ways.' After clicking that, you'll get to choose where to send them. You can send them back to their original location or any settlement you've unlocked. Just remember, if you want to team up again, you'll have to go fetch them!

Actually picked this up the hard way: make sure you're sending them somewhere you remember. Lost Nick Valentine for a solid week because I wasn't paying attention. Wasn't funny trying to find him in the Commonwealth's sea of locations. Pro tip: Always send them to a place you frequent or your main base.
Quick one: You can't send Dogmeat to a human settlement if it's already full. Found that out and had to shuffle settlers like a deck of cards. So, keep an eye on your settlement population!
lol just tell them to go away and pick where they should sulk. EZ.
