To send a friend request in Splatoon 3, head to your Nintendo Switch home screen and open your 'Friends' list. From there, you can search for friends using their Nintendo Switch Friend Code and send a request. In-game, you can also add friends you've recently played with by checking the 'Friends' section after a match.
Honestly, Splatoon doesn't have its own friend request system. It's all about sharing that Friend Code via the Nintendo Switch.
I once got into some heated turf wars with players and then just became friends after the game by sending a request through my Switch's friend system. It was all through the Nintendo Home system, nice and easy!
