I had to put my Xbox in a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). It sounds scary but just means your Xbox is outside the firewall for less restrictions.

Try port forwarding! Open specific ports for Xbox Live on your router: 88 (UDP), 3074 (UDP and TCP), 500 (UDP), 3544 (UDP), and 4500 (UDP).

Get a better router? Some older or cheaper routers just don't play nice with modern gaming consoles. Upgrading could solve your problem!
